Online Therapy in California With a Licensed MFT
Michael Nee, M.A., LMFT (#89379) offers online therapy in California by secure video and by telephone. California licensure means anyone physically located in the state can be seen, which in practice includes clients who moved out of Los Angeles, travel for work, live somewhere with a thin supply of specialists, or simply cannot make a cross-town drive work on a weekday.
Sessions run 50 minutes, Monday through Thursday between 10:00am and 8:00pm, the same as in person.
What Works Well Remotely, and What Does Not
Individual work translates well. Adult ADHD work translates unusually well, because the systems being built are the ones you use at your own desk. Couples work is effective online when both people can be in a room without interruption; it is harder when one partner is dialling in from a car.
Two things matter more than the platform: a private space where you are not managing who might overhear, and a stable connection. Neither has to be perfect, but both are worth arranging deliberately.
What Can Be Worked On
Individual therapy, couples therapy, adult ADHD, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, therapy for men, chronic illness, and sex and sexuality with a certified sex therapist.
Sex therapy in particular is often easier to begin remotely. Being in your own home lowers the barrier to saying the first difficult sentence.
Fees, Insurance and Practicalities
This practice is out of network and not paneled with insurance. Receipts are provided for out-of-network reimbursement, and telehealth is reimbursed on the same basis as in-person care by most plans that cover out-of-network outpatient mental health. Mixing formats is normal: some clients alternate between the Mar Vista office and video depending on the week.
